NAAFS Caged Vengeance 9 Report


On April 16th the NAAFS put on Caged Vengeance 9. This was the first Pro show put together by Nichole Long, and she hit a home run. There were several fights which could have been main events all on one show. I have attended many shows live, and this was by far the best one I have ever attended. There were many great fights as well as some young fighters who really made a big impression on me. Here is the recap.

1. Amateur Lightweight
Dylan King (1-0 Dungeon MMA) vs Jeff Kashdan (1-1 Team Instigator)

RD 1: Kashdan lands a front kick. He tries again but king catches it and lands some shots. They clinch on the cage and King lands good knees. Lands some more nice knees to the leg. King lands a hook and kashdan takes it down but king gets right back up. Leg kick by Kashdan followed by a hook. King lands two punches and then clinches. Kashdan gets a takedown but King is right back up. Hard cross by King followed by two more punches and Kasdhan answers with a body kick.
I scored RD 1: 10-9 king

RD 2: Leg kick by kashdan and King counters witha hook. Kashdan tries for teht akedown but they clinch against the cage. Kashdan is going for a guillotine but king pulls his head out. Hard knee to body by kashdan. Both are landing good shots in the clinch. kashdan gets a takedown and side control. Good knee to the body. King gets up and lands a hard punch. Kashdan lands a leg kick and king answers with one of his own. Kashdan hurts him with two punches at the end.
I scored RD 2: 10-9 Kashdan

RD 3: King lands several hard shots. Thy clinch on the cage and great knees by King. They stay in the clinch and battle for position. King lands some good knees. They then trade shots with king getting the better of it. They clinch again and with no action the ref separates them. They clinch again and King lands knees.

2. Amateur Welterweight
Al Calabrese (0-0 Independent) vs Adam Warmath (0-0 Team Instigator)

RD 1: Warmath lands a jab and then gets the takedown against the cage. He lands some body shots. He then lands great punches to the head and then hammer fists. He keeps landing until the ref stops it.

Result: Adam Warmath by TKO at 1:28 of Rd 1

3. Amateur Middleweight
Curt Lemmon (3-0 Dungeon MMA) vs Mike Garcher (4-1 Powerhouse Gym)

RD 1: Garcher lands a jab and shoots but gets stuffed. Leg kick by Lemmon and they clinch on cage. Garcher uses the foot stomp. Lemmon goes for a guillotine but Garcher pulls out. Both are landing hard punches. The clinch and Garcher lands knees to the body. Lemmon gets a takedown and gets his back. He gets his hooks in and tries to flatten him. Garcher rolls into him and gets on top. He isn't doing anything from the top though. Finally lands one head shot. Lemmon stands and they clinch on the cage at the end of the round.

RD 2: Both fighters come out throwing. Lemmon hurts him with a punch. Garcher takes it down and lands some shots but Lemmon is able to get up. Lemmon then takes it down and gets the mount. He lands ground and pound. Garcher gives his back and Lemmon lands more shots. Now he is in side control and lands more hard shots. He gets the mount and uses ground and pound till the ref stops it.

Result: Curt Lemmon by TKO at 1:27 of RD 2

4. Amateur Heavyweight
Nathan Bryant (7-4 Ground Zero) vs Terry Smith (5-3 Team Instigator)

RD 1: Both fighters throwing hard shots. Bryant gets the better of it. Hard cross lands for Bryant. Smith lands his own hard shot. Nice uppercut by Smith followed by a nice body head combo by Bryant. They continue trading shots. Bryant lands several hard shots that backs Smith up. Jabs by Bryant now. They trade more hard shots. Smith lands a nice uppercut and Bryant answers with some shots to end the round.

RD 2: Bryant lands a head body combo. Bryant backs him to the cage and lands some shots. They clinch and quickly separate. Bryant lands a cross. Both are now missing shots. They both land a leg kick at the same time. Smith lands two jabs and they clinch. Bryant lands body shots in the clinch. Smith lands an uppercut and they battle to get dominant position. Smith lands some punches. Both fighters look tired. Smith lands an uppercut.
I scored RD 2: 10-9 Bryant

RD 3: They trade shots. Nice hook by Smith and then a cross. A couple nice jabs by Bryant. Bryant rushes in and lands two shots and backs out. Good jab by Smith. Anotehr good one follows. Bryant lands a nice cross followed by a leg kick. He then lands some body shots followed by a leg kick. Nice two punch combo by Smith and then he lands a cross. Bryant starts using his jab nicely. hey both throw wild shots as the round ends.

5. Amateur Featherweight
Tyler Saltsman (4-1 Team Titan) vs Bhrandon Poindexter (5-4 Evolve MMA)

RD 1: Jab by Saltsman followed by a leg kick and then Poindexter counters. Saltsman shoots and gets stuffed. He works for it again and gets the takedown. Poindexter trying for a triangle. Saltsman lands shots from the top. He throws a body head combo. Saltsman pulls out of the triangle attempt and they stand. Saltsman lands a shot low to stop the action. They resume and Poindexter throws a kick but Saltsman catches it and takes him down. Poindexter pulls guard. Saltsman lands shots to the body. Saltsman stands and drops down some punches.
I scored RD 1: 10-9 Saltsman

RD 2: Poindexter lands a combo and Saltsman shoots and gets the takedown. Poindexter gets up quickly but Saltsman takes it back down. Saltsman lands several shots. Poindexter almost gets up but Saltsman puts him back down. They battle for position. Poindexter doing a good job of avoiding damage. Theys tand and Saltsman lands a good punch to close the round.

RD 3: Saltsman shoots and gets the takedown. Saltsman lands good body shots. They stand back up. Saltsman goes for and gets a single leg. Poindexter gets up but Saltsman slams him down. Poindexter again gets up and Saltsman again takes it down. Salstman lands body shots and then a knee to the body to end the round.

6. Amateur Middleweight
Jason Huss (0-0 Uniontown Fight Club) vs Pat Schottenheimer (2-0 Team Instigator)

RD 1: They clinch and Huss lands body shots. Schottenheimer pulls him down but is on the bottom. Schottenheimer looking for submissions from the bottom. Schottenheimer rolls on top and lands some body and head shots. Huss has half guard. Schottenheimer lands shots to end the round.
I scored RD 1: 10-9 Schottenheimer

RD 2: Leg kick by Huss. Schottenheimer lands two hooks. Schottenheimer backs him to the cage and lands hard shots. Huss comes back with hard punches. Both throwing shots with Schottenheimer getting the advantage. Schottenheimer hurts him with a punch and has him rocked. Huss clinches and lands a cross.

RD 3: Schottenheimer lands wild shots and Huss counters. They clinch on the cage. Huss lands some shots and Schottenheimer gets the takedown against the cage. He gets side control. Schottenheimer pins his arm down but hulls pulls it out and Schottenheimer lands some punches from the top. The ref stands them up. They trade shots to end the round.

7. Amateur 135lb
Chandra Engel (5-3 American Muscle) vs Rachel Dovidio (4-1 Independent)

RD 1: Dovidio lands some punches and they clinch on the cage. Dovidio lands good shots in the clinch and Engel takes it down but Dovidio lands on top. Dovidio lands hard shots and Engel gives up her back. Dovidio lands hard shots and the ref is looking close. Dovidio gets hooks in and looking for rear naked. Engel rolls over and Dovidio has mount and lands more hard shots to end the round.
I scored RD 1: 10-9 Dovidio

RD 2: Both land good punches and Engel clinches against the cage. They battle for position and Engel takes it down. Engel lands good shots but then Dovidio is able to start defending the punches well. Engel starts looking for a choke but cant get it. Dovidio tries to stand but Engel keeps it down landing short shots. Engel moves to side control and lands some shots to end the round.

RD 3: Dovidio lands hard shots and Engel clinches on the cage. Engel lands a couple punches but then Dovidio turns and puts Engel against the cage. Dovidio lands several hard shots to the head and body. Engel tries to get out of the clinch but Dovidio lands more hard shots. Engel reverse the position, but Dovidio reverses it again and lands more hard shots on the cage.

8. Amateur Featherweight
Tony Metsch (4-0 Team Impact/Mainstreet/H20)vs RJ Buck (8-2 Ohio BJJC)

RD 1: They clinch on the cage. Buck lands good shots. They separate and trade shots. They again clinch on the cage. Buck uses the foot stomp and then slams him. Metsch tries to sweep but can't. Metsch hooks a triangle and gets the tap.

Result: Tony Metsch by Tapout (Triangle Choke) at 2:45 of RD 1

9. Amateur Lightweight
William Algeo (2-0 Team Titan) vs Aaron Bartow (4-0 Team Instigator)

RD 1: They clinch and go to the ground. They quickly stand and clinch on the cage. Bartow lands some punches and they clinch again but quickly separate. Algeo gets a takedown and lands some punches. He gets his back and lands more shots and gets the rear naked for the tap.

Result: William Algeo by Tapout (Rear Naked Choke) at 2:33 of RD 1

10. Pro Middleweight
Brandon Sailing (10-4 Columbus, Ohio) vs John Fields (5-6 Team Instigator)

RD 1: Fields drops him with a punch but Sailing gets up quick. They are doing a lot of circling and feinting. Fields shoots and gets a single leg takedown. Sailing gets up quick. They clinch against the cage and Fields backs off and throws a kick but Sailing catches it and takes him down. Theys tand and Sailing hurts him with a hook. Sailing takes him down but lets him up. Fields shoots but gets stuffed. Fields lands a leg kick and tries a flying knee but Sailing drops him with a punch. Sailing lets him up and then drops him again and starts landing ground and pound. Sailing lets him up. Fields lands a leg kick but looks gassed. Sailing drops him again with a punch and gets his back and the rear naked for the tap.

11. Pro Heavyweight
Bobby Brents (8-1 Team Warrior Concepts) vs Antoine Hayes (9-5 Chicago, Illinois)

RD 1: Vicious leg kick by Brents. Both are feinting. Brents lands a leg kick and clinches and gets a slam. Brents has side control. Now in half guard. Brents drops an elbow and then two punches. He drops more elbows. He isolates an arm and lands more punches followed by more elbows. Brents lands more punches and again tries to isolate an arm. He now lands punches to the body. Hayes is trying to get up but can't. Hayes tries to push off the cage but can't do it. Brents lands more elbows. The ref stands them and Brents lands a jab. They clinch on the cage to end the round.

RD 2: Leg kick by Hayes. Brents lands a nice hook. Brents takes a finger in the eye stopping the action. When they resume, Brents lands two jabs and Hayes misses a leg kick. Brents lands some more punches and a knee to the body. Brents lands a leg kick and gets a takedown. He lands good shots from the top. Hayes is able to get up. They clinch on the cage and with no action the ref separates them. The clinch again and Brents gets a takedown. Brents lands elbows and then stands. Brents lands a body kick and they clinch. They separate and Brents lands a flying knee to end the round.

RD 3: Brents lands a hook and then a body kick. Hayes lands a nice jab. They clinch on the cage and Hayes lands a knee followed by a punch. Hayes is trying for a single leg but cant get it. They separate and Hayes lands punches. Brents lands a nice knee followed by a hook. Hayes lands a leg kick. Brents lands a hard kick to the body. They trade punches and then clinch. Both land knees. Action stalls until Hayes lands a short pucnh. Brents gets the takedown and lands elbows till the round ends.

12. Pro Heavyweight
William Penn (502 Independent) vs Stipe Miocic (9-0 Strong Style Fight Team)

RD 1: Penn shoots in but gets stuffed. Penn lands a hook and tries again for the takedown but still can't get it. Miocic grabs a Thai clinch but Penn pulls out and hurts him with a punch. They clinch on the cage and Miocic lands good knees. Penn lands a jab to the body. Miocic hurts him with a hook and drops him with a second hook. The ref doesn't stop it so Miocic adds two more shots before the ref steps in.

Result: Stipe Miocic by TKO at 2:23 of RD 1

13. Pro Lightweight
Tony Castillo (8-1 Toledo, Ohio) vs Terry Blackwell (5-1 Team Instigator)

RD 1: Castillo throws a jab and shoots in trying for a takedown against the cage. Castillo lands an inside leg kick and Blackwell lands a jab. Blackwell lands a leg kick followed by another nice one that almost drops Castillo. Nice leg kick by Castillo. lots of circling. Castillo lands a hook and blocks a Blackwell head kick. Blackwell drops him with a hook and the ref stops it.

Result: Terry Blackwell by KO at 3:25 of RD 1

14. Pro Middleweight
Mickey Hughes (8-6 H2) MMA/Mainstreet MMA) vs Travis Clark (10-0 Evolve MMA)

RD 1: Clark misses a jab but lands a hook. Hughes lands two punch combo and Clark takes him down. Clark gets the mount and lands some shots. Clark lands great ground and pound and gets his back. Clark moves to side control but then gets his back again. Clark now gets the mount and lands shots. Starts landing hard head shots. Clark postures up but Hughes kicks him off. Clark moves into side control and lands hard shots till the ref stops it.

Result: Travis Clark by TKO at 4:10 of RD 1

15. Pro Welterweight
Gerric Hayes (7-6 Nashville MMA) vs Chris Lozano (11-2 Strong Style Fight Team)

RD 1: Lozano lands a cross and Hayes gets the takedown and gets his back looking for a rear naked. He lands hard punches and is trying hard for the choke. Lozano doing his best to defend. Lozano gets out of the choke and rolls into him. Hayes has him pushed against the cage. lozano reverse and gets on top. Hayes defending well. They stand and Hayes is on his back while standing. They go down with Lozano on top in side control. Lozano lands shots to the body. Hayes gets half guard. Lozano moves to north south but Hayes gets up. Lozano lands a head kick that puts him out.

Result: Chris Lozano by KO at 4:59 of RD 1

16. Pro Welterweight Championship
Kevin Knabjian (9-5-1 Midwest Training Center) vs Nick Duell (17-4-1 Strong Style Fight Team

RD 1: Duell lands a leg kick. Knabjian lands his own leg kick and then a cross. Duell lands a hard body kick and then a leg kick. Knabjian lands a body kick and a nice hook. Duell lands a kick low stopping action. They resume and Duell lands a cross followed by a leg kick. Duell then lands an inside leg kick and two punch combo. Both are throwing hard shots. Duell lands a nice cross. Duell starts landing more frequently. Knabjian lands a hook and drops him with a punch and gets side control. Duell does a good job avoiding damage and is looking for an armbar. Knabjian lands punches to end the round.

RD 2: Nice hook by Duell. Both land a punch. Duell lands a body kick. Knabjian hurts him with a punch and Duell counters with a vicious punch putting him out cold.
