The Fake Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg Interview

The fake interviews I did for some people were popular, so I am doing more from time to time. Note, this is not a real interview, and neither Joe Rogan or Mike Goldberg actually had anything to do with this. It is done in humor as I actually am a big fan of both men's work.

Q: We are joined today by the UFC's main broadcast team, Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg. Guys I want to thank you for taking the time for this.
Mike: Here we go!!!!!!

Q: Mike, it's not a fight, no need for that.
Mike: Exactly

Q: Joe you have been with the UFC a long time, did you ever think it would evolve into what it has become?
Joe: We have come a long way from back when it was Tank Abbott and Paul Varlans types who just hit hard. These guys have evolved into real martial artists. Now these guys are savages who are skilled at so many different things.
Mike: Exactly!
Joe: Back then we were jamming three hundred fans into Bob's BBQ and now we are jamming twenty thousand into this big arenas.
Mike: Exactly!

Q: I think first we gotta talk about Chris Weidman and his knockout of Anderson Silva, now UFC did all they could with the promotional packages to sell fans that Weidman could win that, but did you think it was a realistic possibility.
Joe: That was the best Weidman has ever looked. Silva, it was probably the seventeenth or eighteenth best he has ever looked until he got dropped.
Mike: Anderson Silva was who I considered the pound for pound best. He got dropped with that kick and it was over.
Joe: It was a punch.
Mike: Exactly!

Q: What do you expect in the rematch?
Joe: Who knows. Are we gonna see a new Anderson Silva, a fired up Anderson Silva, a determined Anderson Silva.
Mike: Weidman is the pound for pound best, so I think it is a tough job for Silva.

Q: The biggest one on the horizon is GSP vs Johny Hendricks, Hendricks brings that one punch knockout power and GSP had been caught before by Matt Serra, can it happen again?
Joe: GSP uses great technique. His technique is so technical and when he does the technique you are just amazed at how technical the technique is. So it will be hard. But Hendricks is a savage and is capable of pulling it off.
Mike: Exactly! GSP is the pound for pound best so it is hard to bet against him but Hendricks has been on a roll and we have seen that in his recent fights, most recently his win over Carlos Condit.

Q: If GSP and Silva both win, or even if they lose, do you foresee a GSP vs Silva fight?
Mike: This place is electric.

Q: What? What place is electric?
Mike: I mean that place would be electric. What a fight that would be. The two best pound for pound fighters in the world. They have both been unbeatable.
Joe: Silva just lost.
Mike: Exactly!
Joe: It would be a real battle of technique. GSP has the best wrestling in MMA right now, so he could very well take Silva down but Silva would have the size, so does GSP have the technique to control him once he gets him down.

Q: We have also seen....
Mike: Don't forget to check out the new Kevin James movie, Too Fat to Be Fit But Fitter Than Before. Coming to theaters nationwide September 13th.

Q: Ummm, thanks. As I was saying, we have also seen women fighting in the UFC of late, what has been your take on it so far?
Joe: These are some tough chicks. These aren't two hot chicks just rolling around. This is skilled fighters displaying great technique. Ronda vs Liz was an exciting fight and it has continued to be exciting since then.
Mike: Ronda Rousey is the pound for pound best fighter in the sport. She gets those chokes...
Joe: Arm bars.
Mike: Exactly! She gets them and makes people tap out. When she fought Liz Carmouche, the place was electric.

Q: Joe, you have been vocal about both new gloves or something to help prevent eye pokes as well as the fighters needing to use the Thai cups to prevent low blows hurting so much.
Joe: Yeah, it is crazy how many low blows and eye pokes we have seen. It is dangerous.
Mike: Exactly!

Q: I guess the other big title fight is the Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson fight. Any thoughts on that one?
Mike: Johnny "Bones" Jones is the best pound for pound fighter in the world right now. This is a big step up for Gustafsson.
Joe: Jones has such technique. His technique makes him hard to beat. Gustafsson is a young fighter with nothing to lose and has good technique to. He is a savage and could be a threat to Jones.
Mike: This interview is brought to you by Harley Davidson, the only motorcycle fit to be in the Octagon.

Q: They are actually not sponsoring this interview?
Mike: Sorry, I didn't hear you, I am having a Bud Light, the official beer of the UFC.

Q: I do want to briefly talk about the last two champs to defend, first Demetrious Johnson, he
Joe: Is the fastest guy in the UFC. He is so fast, it's like you see him and then you don't. His technique is incredible. He is cleaning out the division.
Mike: Mighty Mouse may be the best pound for pound fighter in the sport.
Joe: You have said that about a lot of people.
Mike: Exactly!

Q: Also, Jose Aldo, he just beat the Korean Zombie. What did you think of his performance?
Joe: Aldo is a savage. His leg kicks are brutal. Who can forget what he did to people like Urijah Faber. He just throws those leg kicks over and over and you can't stop it.
Mike: Jose Aldo is...

Q: The pound for pound best fighter?
Mike: Exactly!

Q: Well guys, I want to thank you for taking the time out to talk, anything you want to add before we wrap it up?
Joe: Are we done with this thing?
Mike: This broadcast has been brought to you by...

Q: It's not a broadcast.
Mike: Exactly!

NAAFS "Caged Vengeance 14" Report

Jessica Zomcik Interview

Photos 1-5: Shoot It MMA

Jessica Zomcik is considered by many to be the top 145LB amateur in the sport right now. After taking a hiatus from the cage, she has joined Evolve and put together some very impressive wins. She was set to face Jenna Fox at NAAFS Caged Vengeance however Fox has since withdrawn from that fight leaving Zomcik without an opponent. At the time of this interview the fight was still on.

Q: Last fight, you won a decision over Jena Baldwin, how satisfied were you with your performance?
A: Very satisfied, of course there is always things I can do better. She was a super tough cookie and was glad we could put on a performance for the fans, but I'm always looking to improve my game.

Q: It was the best I have ever seen you in terms of striking, is that something you have been working on a lot lately?
A: Yes ! I really only had my boxing coach, Al Zuck, who worked stand-up with me when I lived in Erie, so I always had that sort of boxing style until I moved to Evolve. I feel I've transitioned into more of a Dutch Muay Thai stand up fighter after working countless hours with striking coach Steve Traczyk. I really like how it's rounding out my skills.

Q: You have Jenna Fox coming up, what do you know about her?
A: Tough chick.

Q: She has a real good record and has many fights, but is there something you can bring that perhaps she has not had to deal with yet?
A: Experience in general, we're confident anywhere it goes.

Q: You are both really well-rounded fighters, in a case like that, do you go in trying to take it where you want to take it or just go in knowing you will be comfortable wherever it goes?
A: Comfy, comfy, comfy.

Q: She is strong, how much does constantly training with guys help you in fighting someone like that?
A: When you train with elephants your opponents feel like peanuts. I control grown men 200 pounds plus. I believe I can handle it

Q: You are the most popular amateur female around here combined with several teammates on the card, so crowd will be mostly for you, does that help you at all or do you block the crowd noise out once the fight starts?
A: Mostly block it out but I can still hear my papa in the crowd and my corner.

Q: You are two of the top fighters at your weight, do you see this at all as a fight to determine the top ranked fighter in your class?
A: Right now I'm currently ranked number one in nation at 145 and number one pound for pound in Ohio so there is a huge target on my back for sure. This fight is a pretty big deal in determining who's on top

Q: There is more than one female fight on the card, does that make you happy to see women's MMA getting to the point where there are multiple female fights on cards?
A: Hell ya! It's great seeing the sport grow , each month divisions get deeper and competition gets stronger, I love it.

Q: Is there a key to you winning this fight?
A: Keep calm and have fun.

Q: Do you have a prediction?
A: It will be a good fight.

Q: I ask this every time, so lets stick with tradition, have you given any thought as to when you want to turn pro?
A: Haha ! I knew this was coming, few more fights and then it'll be up to my coaches to determine that.

Q: Anyone you want to thank?
A: Thank you Jason first of all, for following women's MMA so closely and getting us exposure to the public ! Thanks to my biggest supporters- my mom and papa, thanks to Joe Moffa and the Riley Hotel Group, Parrish McIntyre, Intimidation Clothing Company, Shoot It MMA, Dr. Scott Higley, Fat A.Z. Musky Lures, John Cook, Steve Traczyk, Mike Riedel, all of team Evolve and Lauren Traczyk. I can't continue my passion without all of you ! Thank you!

Gina Begley Interview

Photos 1 and 5: CMO Photo
Photos 2-3: Kellye Nicole

Gina Begley returns to the cage on August 3rd at NAAFS Caged Vengeance 14 when she faces Kaitlin Chookagian. Begley is coming off a big win over Shannon Culpepper and has been constantly improving and becoming one of the amateur fighters everyone is watching. Both fighters bring solid submission games to the cage and this fight could deliver a submission or fight of the night.

Q: I want to go over your last fight. You beat Shannon Culpepper. It seemed as though they thought they were bringing you in hoping to make you a nice name on the local fighters resume, did you feel that way?
A: I did! I felt like I was being brought in as good competition but someone she should be able to beat.

Q: Did it make the win that much more special?
A: It did because I got the feeling that she was the big favorite. It was nice to enter and not be expected to win and get the victory, especially in front of her hometown crowd. It felt nice, like invading a territory and taking a victory. It was a neat experience and one that I enjoyed. I enjoyed being being brought in to face the hometown favorite and taking that victory with me.

Q: As a pro you will fight less and less near home, is that long travel a good learning experience?
A: I have not really fought at home so much. I have had to travel to Northern Kentucky every time previous to Colorado. Even locally, I have a hard time finding fights, they find someone and she drops out last minute or they cant find anyone. I will be used to traveling some distance when it comes to turning pro. This fight coming up is five hours away so I wont have a lot of local support.

Q: You are fighting Kaitlin Chookagian, what do you know about her?
A: I really don't know much, and that is by choice. When they offered her as an opponent I looked her up and saw the basic information and watched one fight. I saw her record is listed as 2-0 with two arm bars and she is rightly proud of the fact that she is a Renzo Gracie Blue Belt. I saw a video of her grappling against a guy in a competition. Since that first time, I checked her record and asked questions, just to make sure I wasn't getting in a situation where someone had more experience than they claimed. After that, I haven't bothered to look up anything about her because I don't want to build up some quality in my head that she may or may not possess. What I learned from the initial offer as an opponent is all I know. It is not gonna make a difference after the fact how I fight or what I intend to do.

Q:It would seem as far as MMA, you are a big step up in competition for her, do you think she sees it that way or is that hard for you to tell?
A: It is really hard for me to tell because I have not done a lot of looking into what she has had to say, if anything. I don't really know. Maybe she thinks I am a step up in MMA but I don't know that she would feel like I am a step up in what she is ready for. She comes from a legit school and probably feels ready or she wouldn't accept the fight.

Q: Both her wins being by arm bar, not knowing if it is something she searches for or they just presented themselves, do you spend extra time working on defending arm bars?
A: I have been working a lot of extra time on my Jiu-Jitsu overall. Not because I am fighting her, but because I am trying to do my testing for 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu. I feel like I am gonna prepared wherever she takes it. If she searches for the arm bar, I am comfortable with that, I search for them to. I compete regularly in Jiu-Jitsu and I think of the last couple times, ten of my wins have come from arm bars. Part of training for arm bars is training to defend them so I will be ready.

Q: With grappling and kickboxing, you have been really active between fights, does that help you getting ready for this fight?
A: I think gets you ready for the aggression that someone comes after you with. You can train with partners you are comfortable with and your coach can tell them to attack you aggressively, but they are not coming at you with the aggressiveness as someone who views you as competition. I try and stay active so I can be used to that adrenaline dump or the aggressiveness that someone comes at me with. It helps to maintain your composure. It will help me be prepared for this fight and other fights.

Q: You are 3-1 and for those of us with eyesight you should be 4-0 and you also host Pro WMMA Now. Whether you know it or not, your name is more high profile than most people with four amateur fights, do you think that will make your more and more appealing as an opponent for someone looking to make a name?
A: Possibly, but like you said, I don't really see it. I'm just training every day and feel fortunate to talk to the professionals I get to on my show. I don't see myself as high profile. If the shoe were on the other foot, I may see it that way but also would see it as "this person has a lot on the line" and would know they are training hard expecting people to come at them hard. I spend a lot of time thinking about, writing about, my whole life revolving around mixed martial arts and I think it gives me and advantage because that is all I do, talk about it, write about it, think about it, watching, train it, even my son trains with me. I think it makes me if anything, a more intimidating opponent in that it is all I have to do. I don't have to work forty hours a week and then train in my spare time.

Q: You get to talk to a lot of people on the show, does talking with them help you with fighting, maybe inspiration?
A: It really does. I get to hear what some of these women at the top are doing in their camps and preparation and how they feel about fighting and their emotion about it. I get an inside scoop on what they do to be successful and I can incorporate that to my routine and have success as well. If you want to be a success, see what they do and try and replicate it. I think it helps me, talking to successful people.

Q: You mentioned never fighting at home, but traveling to another state, does it change how you do that final week of a fight?
A: Possibly, just because I don't get to do my weight-cut at home. It is not as comfortable doing a cut in a motel or out of town sauna. But my preferred method is in the tub, so no matter where I am at, I get to have that luxury. It is a little different, not having your stuff, your surroundings, but it's not bad. When you re cutting, you aren't comfortable anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Q: NAAFS has had many of their fighters move to Invicta and even Bellator, does that make it appealing to fight for them?
A: I fought for RFA and they are a big promotion. It was questionable where I would fight next, would it be a local promotion? Then to get the offer from NAAFS, which is right there with where I came from, I am not going back to a small promotion, I am going to another big organization. It is cool to get to do that twice in a row because some people never get to do that at all. I am really excited. To fight for RFA and then move laterally to the NAAFS.

Q: Along those lines, you are a big proponent for women in the sport, for lack of a better word, do you find it cool to fight for a female matchmaker?
A: It really is. That is another reason I feel it is a lateral move from RFA to NAAFS because they are big into female fights, have a female matchmaker and embody what it is I try and promote with my show. It feels neat to go into a fight with people who are big supporters and have a female matchmaker. I love it and am super excited. Fighting for NAAFS is an amazing opportunity.

Q: Is there a key to winning this fight?
A: I do not like going to a decision. I have terrible luck with decisions. Even with Jiu-Jitsu, if it comes down to points, it seems like my weakness. My strategy is to finish. Even if I win a decision, it is still split. I don't want a decision, I want to finish fights.

Q; Do you have a prediction?
A: I think it's gonna be a good fight. I think MMA is unpredictable and that's what is wonderful about it. You have people who have trained in arts their whole life, like Jiu-Jitsu and get beat by people not as experienced. You never know when there will be a knock-out or someone makes a mistake. I am excited for it. I wouldn't say she has the best grappling pedigree I have faced because at one time Shannon Culpepper at one time was considered one of the best grapplers in the nation. I think it will be exciting.

Q: Have you given any thought as to how many amateur fights before you go pro?
A: The plan was at least two more before I talked about going pro. We had to consider wins, loses, opponent quality and things. It may be two more, it may be more, it may be less. It depends on what opportunities present themselves and how my fights go.

Q: Anyone you want to thank?
A: You for the opportunity to do this and always being so supportive of my career and helpful. Gary Thomas and Juan Valle of Bluegrass MMA and Pro MMA Now.
