UFC 223 took place April 7th, coming from The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Fight week was filled with drama with the Conor McGregor situation causing all kinds of changes to the card, resulting in multiple possible opponents for Khabib Nurmagomedov. In the end, Al Iaquinta received the fight. Iaquinta showed a ton of heart, not giving up although being dismantled for the most part by Nurmagomedov as he took every round coasting to a decision to become the new Lightweight Champion. In the Co-Main Event, Rose Namajunas defended her Strawweight Title, making it two wins in a row over former champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Namajunas clearly won round one, being the more effective striker while being allusive herself. From there on, it was four close back and fourth rounds with the judges favoring the champ. In other women's action, Ashlee Evans-Smith made her move to flyweight look like a smart move taking a decision over Bec Rawlings and Karolina Kowalkiewicz made her case for a title shot winning a close decision in a good fight against Felice Herrig. 4. Strawweight: Karolina Kowalkiewicz (12-2) defeated Felice Herrig (14-7) via Split Decision (29-28/28-29/29-28). We scored it 29-28 Kowalkiewicz.
5. Lightweight: Chris Gruetzemacher (14-3) defeated Joe Lauzon (27-16) via TKO at 5:00 of Round 2.
6. Featherweight: Zabit Magomedsharipov (15-1) defeated Kyle Bochniak (8-3) via Unanimous Decision (29-28/30-27/30-27). We scored it 29-28 Magomedsharipov.
7. Featherweight: Renato Moicano (12-1-1) defeated Calvin Kattar (18-3) via Unanimous Decision (29-28/30-27/30-27). We scored it 30-27 Moicano.
8. Strawweight Title: Rose Namajunas (9-3) defeated Joanna Jedrzejczyk (14-2) via Unanimous Decision (49-46/49-46/49-46). We scored it 48-47 Namajunas.
9. Lightweight Title: Khabib Nurmagomedov (26-0) defeated Al Iaquinta (13-4-1) via Unanimous Decision (50-44/50-43/50-43). We scored it 50-44 Nurmagomedov.
