20 Random Questions with Jenna Fox
1. You are trapped on an island with Hulk Hogan, Chuck Norris, Pee Wee Herman, Oprah Winfrey, Betty White and Justin Beiber. Who do you vote off first?
A: It's a tough call between Hogan and the Biebs, but I think I'd have to go with Hogan. He just seems like an arrogant jerk that I wouldn't be able to stand...and I'm pretty sure I could take Justin if necessary.
2. Who do you vote off last?
A: Betty White! She just seems like the coolest old lady on earth, and I bet she'd have all kinds of hilarious wisdom to impart on me. Plus she reminds me of my grandma and I miss her.
3. You are alone on that island, what your items do you need?
A: My smartphone, a 4g network, and a jar of almond butter. I've been craving it like crazy (spoon would be appreciated, but not necessary).
4. If they made a horror movie using fighters, who would play psycho killer, the guy who tries to save the day but keeps screwing up and the girl at the end who destroys the killer?
A: Psycho killer: Mayhem Miller. He's crazy. Period. Screw Up guy: Uncle Creepy! Save the Day Woman: Bec Hyatt. She's fearless!
5.What sport is the most boring to watch?
A: Golf is definitely the most boring sport to watch, and it's one of my Dad's favorites so there was a lot of sneaking of the remote once he fell asleep when I was growing up :)
6. What is the weirdest pick-up line or compliment someone has ever said to you?
A: I can't think of any really strange pick up lines or compliments, but a lot of guys in the past have seemed to think it would be a turn on for me to punch them in the face...I don't really get it.
7. You are making peanut butter and jelly, is the peanut butter crunchy or creamy and what flavor jelly?
A: A ridiculous amount of crunchy peanut butter (or almond butter, or cashew butter, mmm...), banana slices instead of jelly, and a drizzle of honey. On toast. Maybe with mini chocolate chips. I really want a sammich now dangit.
8. What is the best book you ever read?
A: This is a tough one too...I'm kind of a bookworm. I honestly loved the Hunger Games series (and if you only saw the movie and didn't read the books, DON'T HATE, the books are so much better). I really liked the political/social statement the books made more than the "love story" that attracts most people. They just really got me thinking.
9. What is the best board game ever?
A: Trouble. I remember playing it when I was little when storms would make the power go out. It's such a simple game but still fun.
10. What food could you eat every day?
A: The first food that comes to mind is almond butter...if I could eat a large amount of that every day, I would be a super happy girl.
11. What is your biggest fear?
A: . I think my biggest fear would be giving up on my dreams, to quit pursuing my dreams because something else is expected of me. That's not who I am and I never want to be that person. Also spiders. They obviously are plotting against humans at all times.
12. I am ordering you to drop right now and do ten push-ups........... did you do them?
A: No...I'm going to say I'll do them when I get off the couch before I get dinner, but I'm not making any promises. It's my rest day :)
13. Best fight you ever saw?
A: Best fight I ever saw...the one that pops out in my mind is Kazuo Misaki vs Paul Daley on Strikeforce (Tate vs Rousey). I was on the edge of my seat the whole time praying that the doctor wouldn't stop the fight because of the gash on Misaki's forehead because he was doing so well. Misaki was such a warrior in that fight.
14. If they made a movie of your life, what would it be called and who would play you?
A: Hm...a movie about my life...I cheated a little and asked my boyfriend his opinion on this one...he suggested simply "Foxy" for the title and me played by Emma Stone. She doesn't really look like me, but she's awesome so I like it!
15. What is your favorite color?
A: Pink, or any color if it sparkles...
16. What is your favorite holiday?
A: I think my favorite holiday would be Halloween. I make a pretty good vampire, and I love carving pumpkins. Plus there's candy, and giving neighborhood kids sugar-highs for days.
17. Can you think of a movie where the sequel was better than the original?
A: Quite possibly the Dark Knight Rises. I didn't think they'd be able to beat Heath Ledger as the Joker in the Dark Night, but the Dark Knight Rises was absolutely epic. I may have cried a little bit because Alfred played such an emotional role in it. Don't judge me.
18. What is the funniest word in the dictionary?
A: Nincompoop!
19. What animal that is not a normal pet would you want for a pet?
A: This isn't a totally abnormal pet, but I want a hedgehog SO BAD. I'm in love with those little pokey guys. I want to get one and name him Batman.
20. Why are the Kardashian's famous?
A: Ugh. The Kardashian's are famous because their mother is a marketing genius, and their lives are full of stupid drama that seems to attract people. It amazes me the things people want nothing to do with in real life but drool over on television.

A: Oh Nancy Grace, for sure!! Aghh! I think she would just be really naggy and obnoxious! I could probably learn something from Trump, Hogan knows best, and Alice Cooper will probably just sit in the corner with his emo self..oh... and you just don't kick off Chuck Norris.

Andria Caplan Interview
Photos 1-5: CFFC
Coming off her first pro loss, and first loss since her amateur debut, Andria Caplan will be stepping back in the cage on March 16th when she faces Cassie Crissano for Cage Fury Fighting Championships. Caplan is known for her always coming forward and exciting fights and this is a fight that has a chance to be just like the majority of Caplan's fights, meaning exciting.
Q: Your last fight you lost a decision to Gabrielle Holloway. Looking back at that fight, anything you wish you had maybe done differently?
A: Everything was just off. There is a lot I could have done differently but cant pinpoint one thing. The whole time I knew I was losing but didn't think I was going to lose. Everything in my head was a step behind what was actually happen. It was "that" fight haha. So I got "that" out of the way.
Q: You have gotten used to winning, not losing since your amateur debut, was it hard to not get down on yourself?
A: I was for a little bit but I had so much going on that I didn't even have time to think too too hard about it. Gotta keep moving along. Now I just think this one has to be better.
Q: With all that you do have going on, did it maybe play into the last fight and prevent you from getting your head into it?
A: Plenty of people have made that excuse for me. Plenty of people have said that I shouldn't have fought and all that stuff. I don't any of that would have been a good reason to pull out of the fight or an excuse for not performing. Wasn't my night that's all.
Q: You have Cassie Crissano coming up, what do you know about her?
A: She's a wrestler. She's been fighting for awhile.
Q: She is coming off a couple wins and probably feeling confident, do you go in trying to break her confidence real early?
A: I'm just gonna go in and fight. I know she will be super confident. We both should have a good amount of people there watching. The crowd should be good. I am just going out and fight, do what I do. If she feels confident after fighting, fine, if I break her confidence, even better.
Q: What do you bring to the cage that maybe she has not had to deal with yet?
A: It is a big show in a big venue. A really awesome venue. It is gonna be televised and I am used to that. That is the only thing I am thinking. She's had CNN following her and this, that and the other thing, but I don't know that she has had so much going on, like all the production. It gets in some peoples heads. She might think nothing of it. It used to bother me and I don't think twice about it now.
Q: You are known for having some stand-up wars, if it stays standing, do you think she can hang there with you?
A: I doubt it. I don't think that is where she wants to fight or how she will deal with it if she has to stay there.
Q: Is there a key for you to win this fight?
A: I think I am just gonna be that much more mentally prepared. I wont break.
Q: Do you have a prediction?
A: I would like to see my hand raised at the end. I would like that.
Q: ave you put any thought into how many times you would like to fight this year?
A: I have been thinking about it a lot actually. Ideally I would love to fight in March and then May and then July, every other month. Whether I can actually do that, between keeping up a camp, doing mom stuff and getting the fights booked haha. I would like to fight three or four times this year.
Q: O.k., now for the important questions. Which cartoon character would make the best fighter?
A: I am gonna go with Buggs Bunny. He always outsmarts everyone right? There is a mental aspect to fighting, being the trickier one.
Q: Which reality show would you be the best fit for?
A: Maybe Amazing Race or something like that would be fun. I would do alright at Survivor, except I suck at the backstabbing stuff haha. My son told me I would do well on Survivor cause I am too much of a hippy.
Q: You are on an island with Dana White, Ronda Rousey, Mike Tyson, Snooki, Jay Leno and Hulk Hogan, who do you vote off first?
A: Snooki.
Q: Who do you vote off last?
A: Probably Ronda cause it would be cool to train with her right? She is pretty good...
Q: That is what I've heard.
A: I heard she has done pretty good for herself haha. So I would keep her around and be like "wanna train?"
Q: Now, you are alone on that island, what three items do you need?
A: If there was a way to make music, that would be one. I would need a way to make fire, a fishing pole, and something to tie my fucking hair back cause it's always in my face.
Q: If they made a horror movie using fighters, who would play the psycho killer, the nice guy who tries to save the day, and the heroine who kills the killer at the end?
A: The psycho would be Nick Diaz. He has a look to him. The nice guy who wants to save the day would be Brian Stann. The heroine would be.... it is awesome that so many are coming to mind, but what about Shayna Baszler.
Q: What movie needs to be re-made?
A: I actually hate remakes. I really don't like re-makes.
Q: What non-fighter athlete would you like to see fight?
A: I have actually thought about this before. Jordan Burroughs the guy who took the Gold at the Olympics in Wrestling.
Q: What celebrity would you most like to see fight and get their ass kicked?
A: There is quite a few. I don't like Russel Brand. He would be number one. He is annoying.
Q: Anyone you want to thank?
A: I would like to thank Confrontational Clothing is sponsoring em again, they are awesome. Antonelli and Company in Buena, New Jersey. Rockstar Ink in Absecon, New Jersey. My team, Daddis Fight Camp, everyone there. This camp has been awesome, such a positive vibe in the gym. Cage Fury for putting me on the card, I wont disappoint. My parents for putting up with me and my strange diet habits.

Holland Canter Interview

Holland Canter is still new to competing but in a short time has really made her presence felt. I first saw Holland after she did USA's. I saw some photos and felt she had some real potential. Then after seeing the package she brought to Nationals I felt safe in saying she definitely has pro card potential, not if she wins it, but when she wins it. Holland to me really falls into the saying "the sky is the limit".
Q: Can you talk about how you got started in the gym?
A: My parents enrolled me in gymnastics when I was about four years old. I was a gymnast for eighteen years of my life. I got a full-ride scholarship to the United Sates Air Force Academy and had the opportunity to compete on a D-1 level for four years. Afterwords I was in Vegas one weekend and met a trainer and he asked if I did bodybuilding. I said no that I had just graduated from college. I wasn't into anything yet after gymnastics. He gave me his card and we started talking and that is how I started lifting.
Q: What made you decide to compete?
A: After I met my first trainer, Rick Dobbins, he told me I should look at pictures on-line and read articles and look into the sport. I did a lot of research and was lifting in the gym and got interested. That is how I got started.
Q: A lot of girls I interview say that after that first show, competing becomes like an addiction, was that the case with you?
A: Yes! I competed in my first show last January and I won the Iron Man Naturally and have not stopped training since. I haven't taken a full off-season. I have been pretty much addicted since last January haha.
Q: A lot of girls with the gymnastics background go towards fitness, why did you pick physique?
A: Fitness requires a whole lot of extra time. I am an officer it the United States Air Force and it is a full-time job. I just don't have the time to do a whole routine, train the routine and lift weights at the same time.
Q: At USA's you took thirteenth, obviously not where you would have liked, was it hard to not get down on yourself?
A: I was a little upset but that is why I decided to do Nationals after USA's, I couldn't end the season like that. I wasn't really too down on myself, I could see what I needed to improve on, posing was the big thing. I knew with better posing I could do better at my next show. So I wasn't too upset.
Q: Besides the level of competition, was the national stage any different for you than previous shows?
A: I wouldn't say so. The wait was the biggest difference. I get anxious before I go on stage and get a little worked up. But I would say it is about the same very show. After pre-judge I come off stage and have no idea what is happening. I think it is because I am a new competitor. But I would say it is the same for every show.
Q: Then you did USA's and I thought looked much better, would you agree and if so where were you better?
A: Yes I think I looked much better. I think it has to do with weight training longer and more muscular development. I started squatting a lot more and concentrating on heavier weights. I got a new trainer, Andrea Holliday, and she really honed in on my nutrition. I wasn't cardio'd out close to the show and really stuck to my diet and had more time to work on my muscles.
Q: Did the improved posing just help show everything better also?
A: Oh yeah! I practiced posing a million times more and showed off my muscles a lot better. Andrea helped with that. We did a lot of pictures and a lot of phone calls on how I was supposed to pose. I had my first posing session with a coach right before Nationals so I was still new to everything and never had a coach with me in person.
Q: Physique is still new, does it make it hard when judges may not still know what they are looking for?
A: I don't think it is the same for me since I am still so new. I just bring my best package and don't concentrate on what they exactly want. I am working on making my muscles look the best they can and concentrate on my nutrition. I never tried to change my look. I love Dana Linn Bailey but like when she went to figure and tried to make her appearance smaller and now in physique can look more like herself. I just try and look myself and not concentrate on what they want.
Q: Do you know when you want to compete next?
A: I think I am doing Jon Lindsey's show in Culver City March 9th. I have friends doing that show and they want me to do it with them. I am training now and should be ready. I haven't signed up but I think I am doing it.
Q: Where do you want to be better at for the next show?
A: Definitely keep working on my shoulders. They need to be bigger. A smaller waist of course and my abs. I used to have really good abs when I was a gymnast and then they kind of fell of this past year so I have been doing a lot of abs since Christmas. My quads, develop that sweep, my back can get bigger, my lats can get bigger, but mostly my shoulders and abs.
Q: Is the pro card the goal or is it more if it happens it happens?
A: I have thought about that question a lot because people keep saying "gotta get that pro card." Girls have been doing this for years and striving for that. I think I am just so young and haven't been competing that long. A pro card would be awesome but I think I enjoy competing more than the goal of being a pro. It is amazing to be the best and be a pro, I don't wanna say I don't wanna win.
Q: When you are at the gym do you get the stares or attention?
A: I work out at my base gym and everyone knows me as who I am and leave me alone or just say "whats up LT." I work out with my husband a lot and they don't bother us. Right now I am at a different base in San Diego and am getting a lot of stares and "who is this chick working out in here?" They ask em to stop them haha.
Q: If you could spend one day training with someone you have never trained with, who would it be?
A: Definitely Dana Linn. She is a beast and my motivation. She posts videos on Facebook and me and my husband watch. She is so strong and a motivator and has no shame in her muscles. She is a good role model for strong women.
Q: Anyone you want to thank?
A: Definitely my husband. He has been there for me through this whole experience and is my number one fan and supporter. My family back at home for their un-ending support. Even if I was competing in a chess match my family would be there with pom-poms. I have a great fan base for sure.
IFPA Pro Kristin Flanery Interview

Kristin Flanery started out doing a bikini show. She quickly realized she was better off with figure, that that is where she wanted to be. It proved to be a wise decision as she quickly won her IFPA Pro card. Kristin is currently in the midst of taking some time off to make her improvements for the pro stage, so we can expect her pro debut to be her best look yet.
Q: Can you talk about how you got started in the gym?
A: My husband was in the Marines. I never worked out a day in my life. He kept trying to encourage me to start weight training with him. I started just doing cardio and abs. I ended up getting pregnant with both of your children who are nine months apart. After the second one, that is when I decided I am gonna start weight training, do whatever it took to get back my body. I joined a gym that had competitors lining the walls and it sparked something in me to decide I could do that. I have been doing it now for almost two years.
Q: What about seeing them made you decide you wanted to do it?
A: It was at first the physical appearance. They looked strong and embodied strength and beauty. My original focus was bikini and after my first show I realized that is not the route I wanted to take, I was more in awe of figure competitors and that is where my focus has been since then.
Q: A lot of girls I interview say that after the first show competing becomes like an addiction, was that the case with you?
A: No, it's not an addiction. For me, it is about teaching my kids a healthy lifestyle. My husband is training for his first powerlifting meet. We are trying to show them that you can have a job and lots going on and a family and still be able to do the things you are passionate about.
Q: You mentioned starting in bikini, when you switched to figure, did you have to make any drastic training and diet changes?
A: Yes! My first bikini show I was not taking in enough food and calories. I hired a nutritionist, Alex Ellis with The Complete Package. She gave me completely new workouts. It became heavier training, squats, deadlifts, pull-ups, a lot of compound movements. I took a year off before my first figure show.
Q: At the Kansas City Classic you won your pro card, going in, did you feel that was a possibility?
A: No, I went in just so excited to get on the figure stage, that is all that mattered to me. I had a couple people encourage me that a pro card was a possibility but I just kept shutting them out because I did not think it was anywhere near a possibility. My coach brought me in incredible and I never looked like that before. She keeps making me better and better. Not I am taking the year off to focus on my next show.
Q: Looking back do you think it was really not thinking it was possible or just not setting your hopes high and getting disappointed?
A: I think it was a combination of both. I feel like a lot of figure competitors are a little more seasoned. I only had a year and a half of training and felt like I may not have been deserving as people who put in five or ten years and didn't have the muscle maturity to do so. But Alex's training and guidance made me able to achieve what I didn't think was possible.
Q: When you realized you were a pro, do you remember what went through your head?
A: I honestly just thanked God immediately because I did not think it was possible. I heard my kids and husband and Alex screaming and it made it all worthwhile.
Q: Does having the word pro next to your name carry any more responsibility as far as how you portray yourself in the industry?
A: To some degree, yes. I think once you have that label, people tend to look up to you a little bit more than they would have been for. It is important to inspire people to work towards their dreams and answer questions to the best of your knowledge or refer them to people who can.
Q: Do you know when you plan to compete next?
A: I have been taking a year off. My pro debut is the IFPA Pro International in Kansas City in September with my long term goal to qualify for the Yorton World Cup in October.
Q: Where do you need to be better for the pro stage?
A: I feel like ti would not hurt to just develop everywhere. I feel like I went into my show with good symmetry, I just need a fuller look and that is why I am taking this year off.
Q: How hard is it to balance prep with being a mother?
A: It is very difficult. My husband is a police officer that often has the opposite schedule. He will get off at 2am and I leave at 4:30 am for the gym and then come home and get the kids ready and meals packed and take them to school.
Q: At the gym, do you get a lot of the stares or attention?
A: I belong to a very supportive gym, St. Louis Fitness Club, and the customers and staff are very supportive. I never get negative looks, just people saying I inspired them or pushing me to work harder to achieve my goals.
Q: Besides the Yorton Cup, do you have any other specific goals?
A: I would eventually like to inspire a larger amount of people. I am not sure in what capacity but I wanna take everything step by step and continue to achieve my goals. My coach and I are taking it a step further each time.
Q: If you could spend a day training with anyone you have never trained with, who would it be?
A: For me it would be Erin Stern. I absolutely love her. She has a fun training style and an amazing physique. She represents herself in a very positive manner.
Q: Anyone you want to thank?
A: My husband and children for always encouraging me to reach for my dreams. My coach Alex Ellis, she saw something special in me when I didn't as far as competing. She pushed my to places I didn't know I was capable to go. My sponsor Pro Body Solutions, they keep me powered with the best supplements and have been very supportive and saw something special in me before I had a pro card. My newest sponsor Lidia Conti for sponsoring me with my suit this year. Also, my teammates and workout partner Shannon McMillan.

Sarah Maloy Interview

On February 16th Sarah "KO Kid" Maloy looks to build on what has been a successful MMA career when she makes her pro boxing debut against Sheena Cheney. While she took the fight just to stay busy, Maloy feels this could really benefit her budding MMA career. Already a very well-rounded fighter, learning more skills is only going to add more facets to her game as she continues to climb the ranks and impress people.
Q: First, for my blog, the fans voted you as Most Underrated Fighter, how does it feel knowing that so many fans thought so highly of you?
A: It actually felt really awesome. Out of all of the categories, I really felt honored to be nominated for that one because I do think I am extremely underrated. I train really really hard, my skill-set is very well-rounded and I don't think that I have ever gotten to completely show my entire skill-set in a fight. To win that category felt really really good.
Q: You have your boxing debut coming up with Sheena Cheney, why did you decide to try a boxing match?
A: I think that I am at kind of a middle point in my career. Smaller local promotions are wanting to put me on a card but can't find any girls who will take a fight with me and the bigger promotions, everyone wants on their cards, opportunities are so few and far between because there are so many girls. So it was a way to stay busy and keep competing without having to have six months between fights.
Q: Considering so much of sparring is with boxing gloves, I assume you will be comfortable with those?
A: Yeah, the gloves is my smallest issue haha. That is one thing where I am like "o.k., I can do this, I spar with boxing gloves quite a bit" haha. The gloves are actually eight ounces so it doesn't feel that heavy compared to MMA gloves. There is a huge difference in so many other things. It really surprised me.
Q: Do you know much about Sheena?
A: I have seen video of her fight. I know this will be her fourth pro fight. We have studied that a little bit and catered our training towards her weaknesses like I would an MMA opponent.
Q: You are standing there throwing with her, will you have to remind yourself to not throw a kick?
A: Haha that is so funny. I actually kick quite a bit. I feel comfortable using my kick just like a jab to keep distance if I need to rest or anything like that. I also randomly kick things and people throughout the day all the time haha. It was really hard to make that transition not to kick. All the ladies in my classes are like "don't kick, don't kick" cause I will kick a door closed or kick things out of the way or a door open, I kick so much. We have just gotten to where I can go a whole day without kicking. It is only an issue when we are sparring and I start to get tired, then I have to think "don't kick." But I think it is going well.
Q: You are used to the five minute rounds, does it benefit you that not you will be doing shorter rounds?
A: It is gonna benefit me. In MMA you can break the monotony of punches with kicks or takedowns or clinch, a lot of things. In boxing there is a possibility that you are gonna throw constantly for two straight minutes. That is one of the first things I did, set the clock for two minutes and just throw the entire time to make sure I could do it just because of that little doubt "can I do that? That has been a relief, the cardio is not an issue, I just had to focus on my footwork and different combinations and head movements because she is not trying to kick my legs or take me down, she just wants to punch me in the face.
Q: Congratulations for continuing your trend of always using a word that no one has used with monotony.
A: No one uses monotony? haha
Q: You mentioned footwork, are you gonna need to change your footwork?
A: It is actually a lot different. I had to change a little bit with my stance, I can come up just a little bit in my stance and use my reach a little more. The footwork is a lot different. You don't wanna get really wide, always be balanced. We are drilling it a lot and I am getting really comfortable and fast. It has made my punches more fluid and quicker. It will benefit my MMA career for my next MMA fight.
Q: That sets up my next question, how can this fight benefit you with MMA?
A: Being able to incorporate new techniques. Different footwork, different speed, you never know what your opponent will do, so having a new arsenal will be beneficial. I can stand and bang a lot better haha. I will have to change some things back.
Q: Do you watch much boxing?
A: I watch the big matches, they always intrigued me. But not so much the not as well known boxing like MMA. Chances are if they have had a fight or two in MMA, I know who they are. So I have had to submerse myself in that because high level pro boxing is not where I am at, it is different than my skill-set and the opponents I will face right now.
Q: Is there anyone you enjoy watching?
A: I am a major Pacquiao fan. I started going to some local shows. The small local shows tend to have some people in there, especially last minute fillers who shouldn't be in there with their skill-set, but then there is always those little diamonds that you can be amazed at their footwork and speed and counters. I have gotten to be a fan of some local guys.
Q: Do you have a prediction?
A: Usually I don't predict but I am gonna give it a whirl. I predict I am going to fully earn my nickname this fight.
Q: After this, what do you want next?
A: I would love to get on the next Invicta card, that would be awesome. My fans are petitioning for it. But there is only twelve to fourteen fights and everyone wants on them. Sadly my weight class has been the one with the least attention. I am holding out for it but we have back-up plans. Depending on how this boxing match goes, I might take one more before I make a big announcement about a fight in June that I cant talk about yet, but it is awesome. My husband is having his last amateur fight on March 30th so we have some awesome things coming up.
Q: I gotta ask, Ronda Rousey vs Liz Carmouche, how does it end?
A: My girl Liz is gonna take it home.
Q: Anyone you want to thank?
A: I want to give a special thanks to Slade at Tussle. I think that people have taken advantage of his kindness. He has been so great to me and he has followed me wherever I go. He had no hesitation sponsoring me for boxing even though he usually does MMA. Him and Molly are amazing, she is an inspiration. I will always be honored to have Tussle on my butt forever. Also, MMA Grillz, Abundant Life Family Medical, Team Hurricane Awesome, Crosspointeadalive.com, BT Fight Management and Marketing.
